Stat Calc: Shields

The Stat Calc now gives you your shield amount instead of just -n/a-. The amount of shield per stat was not known until Pervertido of BCU Prelude sent me a list of almost every value from 2-300. Be sure to thank him if you see him. ^^

The few missing spots in the data were filled using trendline formed from what data was available. Most should be 100% accurate with just those few only deviating by +/- 3 at most.

Fun stuff to look forward to

One of the qualms I had with the site was the inability to see weapon and armor on the fly, like you can in game by just hovering over them. To try and fix that, I created something similar.

On the Armor Calc Beta page, I added this new hover ability. You can check it out by hovering the mouse over any of the banked armors. I have it working 100% on my local version for both weapons and armor, but it took a complete revamp of the site class structure. Expect to see it when everything else is done.

On a cooler note, I hope to have that functionality available beyond just AceCalcs. If you own a clan site or forum, I am working on setting it up so you can load the data from AceCalcs and get the same hover ability on your site.

Behind the Scenes

Sorry if I have been kind of lacking on updates and content for a while. I am currently in the midst of creating what I guess could be called "AceCalcs 3.0". It has consumed almost all my normal site work time (as working on something that doesn't work with the new stuff feels wasteful).

There are a whole bunch of changes planned. Most of the current tools on the site will still stay intact, but will be allowed to better interact with each other and let the site work as one big tool instead of just a container for them. I may give more details as it progresses, but it is still too early to list anything definite.

Many people have e-mailed suggestions on things to add or change on the site, and some of those are being worked on. If you have any ideas to share, don't hesitate to send me an e-mail. ^^

Calc Beta Format

Armor Calc Beta

Along with the new format, I am also testing a user comment bit I have been working on. It isn't exactly feature-filled, but still helpful. If you have any questions/comments/concerns in relation to the new format, don't be afraid to leave a comment. ^^

Future Calc Changes/Site Milestone

First off, I guess I completely missed the 2-year mark of the site being up, which was back on March 26. It was also in the last few days that the Created Weapons by users hit 30,000. I would like to thank everyone of the close to 20,000 different users that visit the site and make it what it is.

On a more technical note, I have been working on a whole lot of changes to the site the past few months, but one of them may be making an appearance soon. To try and shrink down the width of the calcs, a new format is being worked on. Once done, I will put it out in beta to see if everyone likes it. It will only be the Armor Calc that will get this treatment until it is confirmed better.

Host Change Complete

Sorry for the inconvenience while the host was changing. Everything "should" be back up to normal. I ran through everything to make sure it is all running fine and it looked that way. If you see any problems, please let me know.

The Contact page is kinda in beta mode for a bit as my old host did the emailing for me. New host means no use of that script, so I made one myself. Also, the host change caused a loss of ALL my old emails attached with that account... fuuuuu. Didn't get back-ups in time. Will work on that part later.

Anyways, creator saves should be back to normal. To make up for lost time, I increased the funds on there a bit. Nothing special. I appreciate the patience. ^^

Upcoming Down Time

I have been wanting to change web hosts for a while, but have been lazy about it. Finally fed up and am switching. This will cause the site to go down for an indeterminate amount of time (could be a couple days).

I am planning to do this Wednesday, March 24th between 11:00-midnight CST. Creator weapon saves will be disabled prior to that to ensure there isn't a loss of information. Now this doesn't mean the site is going to go DOWN at that time. Just that I am going to start transferring.

So why am I changing hosts? Cause Globat sucks dick. :D Probably moving to JustHost. Will be cheaper and more reliable.

Ugly URLs Fixed

I didn't even notice this until just tonight. The PHP session IDs were popping up in the URLs and it took some playing around to get them to go away. I thought it was fixed prior to the last update, but I guess I was wrong. If you have any links with this part in it, you can just delete it (it looks like ?PHPSESSID=[randomstuff]).

Sorry to those that were maybe using the site at the time. Was a very random maintenance. =/ If there are every any other strange problems, please send me a e-mail.
Format Changes

While the actual translations are not done for the site yet, I thought I would at least update the format.

Most changes were made to make variable word sizes much easier to work with. Others were to clean up the mess that it was. Major changes include:

Visual:

80% of all table structure on the site changed to div.

All the calcs now have collapsible info boxes

Guides section moved under the general Resources tab

Other:

Creator shops can now have their amounts increased/decreased by clicking anywhere in the items description

Tools section added for downloadable tools and such that people have created

So nothing huge, but took forever. =/ I will post again when the translations are done. For now, only the French ones are done, thanks to the help of Kyrios, who also was my guinea pig for getting things to work right. ^^

I ran into some issues with compatibility between local and host networks, making maintenance take way longer then the 10 minutes I hoped for. Should be fine now.

Work in progress

I am still working on the language support. It is just taking a bit longer then I wanted. To allow words of varying length after translation to fit correctly, a lot of the tables are being converted into CSS. This poses a huge browser compatibility problem, which gets very, VERY frustrating. =/ (did I ever mention I hate IE -_-) Hence, I take a lot of breaks.

Because of the large amount of e-mails I receiving about translating (around 40+), I have been unable to reply to all of them. I do read every e-mail sent, so don't think I am ignoring you. Just trying not to get overwhelmed.

My goal is to have it done in 2 weeks, but considering Mass Effect 2 comes out in a few days... that isn't a promise. >_>

Update (2/25/10): Told you. Actually close to being done though. Still a lot to do, but A LOT less than before. It has become 25% language addition and 75% code cleaning/format updating.

Translators Wanted

I know there are a whole lot of non-English users of the site. For the past few months, there have been many e-mails about adding other languages and I have been trying to figure out the best way to go about it. I think I settled on a good solution, but need some help.

The problem? I only know English. D:

If you are someone fluent in English and another language you want to see on the site (preferably of one the game has a version for) and want to help, send me a mail from the Contact Page. Know that there will probably be a good amount of text to run through, but the help would be greatly appreciated.

All of this is still in very early development (I started working on it just a few hours ago), so a full list of the needed translations may not be available for a little while, until it is all compiled. I just thought it best to get a list of translators ready ahead of time.

Updates and Issues

First, list of updates. A lot of them deal with integration with calcs/linking:

Hyper Enchant Protects added to the Weapon Creator.

Stat Calc:

Format made to fit the other calcs a bit.

Armor listing now uses the same list as the Armor Calc.

You are able to link to the base armor shown in the Armor Calc.

A LOT of underlying coding changes/tweaks

Weapon/Armor Linking

Linking options are viewable after clicking a link

The viewed item can be loaded into its respective calc.

Various coding tweaks to allow the calcs to load outside data.

Though you can now, technically, link to the calc itself, I would recommend not doing so. It has a longer load time and isn't made for quick viewing. If the user wants to play with it, they can click the link to load it in themselves.

And for those not happy about the recent change in how drop rates are shown on Acepedia, do know that this is a preemptive decision to prevent the potential loss of a lot more. While I won't go into the details, just know that between the two choices given, this is the one you would prefer.

Just know that it is a preemptive decision. Whether or not similar changes are made is beyond Tim or my own control. We apologize in advance.

Tim has added a bunch of the new Ep3 items to Acepedia. That includes eva/def cards, engine cards, and the drop rates of many of the new mobs.

One of the big fixes is that Acepedia now works in Internet Explorer. It is still a bit funky when clicking monster names for detailed info, but it seems to work for all the rest.

Thanks for the update Tim! :D

Weapon Calc Formula

After looking at some people's opinions on the topic through some e-mails I received, I decided the best middle ground is to just show both.

The Weapon Calc info box now shows the results of both formulas, shown as "True"(old) and "Expected"(new). The names come from the value that is most true to the info screen and what is expected if you shoot something. All in all, I just like the new way it looks. Less jumbled text.

First off, Christmas Event is now over. =( Thanks to all that participated and I hope you enjoyed!

Secondly, there has been a good amount of changes to the site. Many are impossible to see; others are obvious

Weapon Calc

All Pumpkin weapons added.

All Boss weapons added. (ver 3.1)

Back to its old formula (reason here).

Unfinished Boss weapons can now have enchants and fixes.

Added a "True Prob" piece that adds in prob given from the attack stat.

Fixed the Partial Total view when mixing attack fixes/enchants with attack buffs.

Weapons missing pictures now correctly show a "No Image" placeholder.

Dropdown for weapon classes organized slightly diffirently.

Armor Calc

All Non-WP Slot Armors (R, D, E) have been added.

An RSS Feed has been added.

Prefix "Solace" corrected.

Recently created weapons have been moved to the sidebar and only shows users with a saved name.

Guide search form cleaned up a bit.

Darker segments of the page now use opaque PNGs.

Site "theme" has been centralized to a CSS.

Databases for news, created weapons, and guides have been reorganized and relocated.

Site file structure reorganized and old files cleaned out.

Various coding tweaks.

I know a lot of this stuff should have been added a long time ago (especially boss weapons and modifications of such), so there should be quite a few happy people. ^^ Sorry for the long wait. =(

A lot of the underlying restructuring of the site was done to make some future stuff I hope to work on much easier on my end.

Fixes Update

It is well known the names for the Super Fixes on AirRivals and, even longer ago, for NA AO, changed to a more "unique" set. It took me a bit to get it all set, but with some assistance from the NA AO staff, I got them up.

All Super gambles have been renamed. In case of differences, I kept the old versions still up on the Weapon Calc; they are just gray in the drop-down now. The new fixes also prompt an "aka" line that shows the old name, to help make it a bit easier to compare to what you may be used to.

Pierce fixes have also been added to the calc, but only the prefix ones (based on some things I was told). I may add the suffix ones a bit later, even if they aren't available.

The renamed Supers are also now on the Weapon Creator, but pierce fixes were NOT added to it. I will repeat, Pierce fixes will not pop up on any weapons on the creator... yet. I have to figure out the probability of getting them from gambles with some asking around. Until then, you have to live without a bit longer. =(

None of the old fixes were removed from the databases, and the "renames" were put in as new fixes, so old links to weapons with the old names will still show it with said name.

If you can't see the new fixes, clear you cookies and try again. Also, this was all added at 4am with little sleep, so e-mail me if I made something become D:.

Christmas!

Yay! As this is the time of the year for giving (or better yet, the act of receiving), I thought an event was needed. D:

Christmas Event!
SantA-gear seems to have visited the creator early this year. :O He seems to have left some presents for everyone to enjoy! There is also a few new Christmas gambles in the shop that can help you spruce up your weapons with a bit of holiday cheer. ^^

On a serious note, the Weapon Calc, Direct Link, and Creator have all been changed over to the databaseing format the Armor Calc uses. It should not effect anything visually, but may cause linking issues until bugs are found.

Also, the Creator's starting items have been reduced to just SPI Caps. To make up for this, a closely equivalent amount of SPI has been added to the starting funds.

Armor Calc... no lie

So I decided about 2 weeks ago I wanted a decent sized project to work on. Considering the demand, I said f'it and made it.

The Armor Calc works just about the same as the Weapon Calc. That is cause it is about 80% copy/paste. The other 20% is a change to a slightly varied way of databaseing, making things 100 times easier on my end.

Anyways, DirectLink works with it just like on the other calc. I also made sure to add all the 72 and 85 boss armors in to the best of my ability. Slot armors I hope to add a bit later as well.

This does not mean a creator is coming for armor, but it is something I may throw together later. There are many other things I would like to do first, like take a small break. ^^

Enjoy. :D
